What’s this all about… Alfie (I mean, Susie)?

The diary of a middle-aged Londoner is a gentle peek into the life of a middle-aged London, it’s a sister publication to my website “A middle-aged Londoner”.

Where “A middle-aged Londoner” is by and for people in their middle-ages, this page is for anyone who is a joyful dreamer. It’s a page about ideas and creating a life on purpose - it’ll touch on career changes, learning to make shoes, trying to set up a magazine (A middle-aged Londoner), learning to save (ahem) and invest and creating financial freedom (I haven’t done it yet, nowhere near but come along with me as I, and perhaps you, do).

There’ll also be bits and bobs about things to do in London, places to go, things to see - lots of food and drink. And there’ll be recipes. And… a little bit of whatever I fancy, including music, films, TV, etc., it is my diary after all. Oh, there’ll probably also be mistakes - typos, that kind of thing, as I work to rid myself of perfectionism. Thank you for your understanding on that.

I don’t actually 100% understand how this platform works yet but I know that it’s a place for writing, and for building community - both things I want to do. It’s got a huge bank of images I can use and that’s a MASSIVE plus because I tend to get caught up on getting my images right and then I end up never posting anything. It’s a little bit of freedom, for me.

Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website. I’ll be working out my rhythm as I go along but the aim is for a free newsletter once a fortnight and more community based stuff for paid subscribers on the alternate weeks - no promises here yet. The paid subscription will go up but for anyone who joins at the current rate, so long as you don’t cancel your subscription, it will stay the same as long as you’re a subscriber.

Why should you become a paid subscriber - honestly, at the moment… because you love me! Tee he. I’m hustling here, I’m trying to raise money to put into creating my magazine, amongst other things and this platform is providing me with a way to generate income for myself, on my own terms. But I’m going to put effort into making it interesting and into developing my writing and entertaining skills and that takes a lot of time innit.

I’m working on the Founding Subscribers package but you’ll need to be in London or able to get to London to take advantage of it.

Stay up-to-date

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox but if you rather you can set up a rule in your inbox to archive them straight away and access the website (include all newsletters) from the substack app. Just saying because I know what my inbox is like!
